Purchasing power – Matt Terry
As one of the newest interns here at with the Twins, in probably one of the least known departments (purchasing), I have settled in very well with the community, with help from my superiors, Luis and Bud. We are the ones who make sure the Twins, Target Field, the Twins Community Fund and all our Minor League teams get the items they need, when they need them, and to exact specifications, all while keeping under budget.
A brief history of myself… I grew up in the Twin Cities, spent two years active duty with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt, and now I’m back home going to college at the U of M.
Back to the internship, my tasks include making sure maintenance’s tools and parts are expedited fast and efficient so their work isn’t held up due to lack of materials. I also take care of all requests for office supplies, flower orders, supplies for Target Field, name tags, business cards, and much more. (That’s only what I’ve seen after being full time for about a week now, so I’m excited to see other requests that come in during the season)
It can get pretty busy here in purchasing, and it will be even more so come the end of May when Luis, the Purchasing Manager, will be taking on a new job with the SF Giants. He will be starting a Purchasing Department there, from scratch. So it will just be Bud and I here, taking care of all the orders. It’s going to be a busy (but fun) summer!
